Revitalized Medvedev Claims First Trophy in 882 Days

Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev secured his first title for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

Medvedev, a former number one, has experienced a difficult year, achieving just one win at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in especial - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-time mentor Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.

It is the player's first title following the Italian tournament and first on a hard court since that period of that year.

The win also indicates Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at 21 distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my two daughters together, so to get a title is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my child her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.

His defensive approach and recurring outbursts on court had led observers to doubt if his ability to play at the top level was finished.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform assertively, backed up by an enhanced service.

He recovered from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, securing 4 of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour championship, seized the initiative to force a decider.

The opponent defended 4 early-game break points in a close third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured the title with a point at the net area, with Moutet unable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
