Approximately fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Police report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then found many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state early analysis indicate the liquid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior representative said the attack left him stunned and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
